About

United Way of Durham Region, rooted in the early 1940s during World War II, was founded by local leaders to coordinate aid for soldiers’ families through a unified fundraising campaign, evolving into a vital community pillar. Its mission is to empower everyone to improve lives and build strong communities by tackling poverty, food insecurity, social isolation, and mental health challenges across Oshawa, Whitby, Clarington, Brock, Scugog, Ajax, Pickering, and Uxbridge. With over 1,000 volunteers, it funds high-impact programs supporting thousands, partners on initiatives like 211 services, Operation Backpack, and emergency funds, fostering pathways out of poverty for all to thrive
