Tara Hills Stud, located at 13700 Mast Rd. in Port Perry, Ontario, is one of North America’s premier Standardbred breeding farms. Established in 1996 by Peter Heffering, a Canadian Horse Racing Hall of Fame inductee renowned for Holstein cattle and horse breeding, the farm is now led by his son David Heffering as owner/general manager. Specializing in champion trotters and pacers like It’s Academic, Control The Moment, and Dancin Lou, Tara Hills stands elite stallions, breeds quality foals, and raises yearlings for sale. In 2023, its horses won 169 races and over $3.4 million, earning an O’Brien Award nomination for Breeder of the Year. With a dedicated team including farm manager Matt Harrison, the stud supports harness racing through online updates, breeding contracts, and community engagement.
